Current Placenta Storage Options

The current option offered to you by hospitals are all plastic which are not only toxic to our planet but require you to defrost and unpack the placenta before you can plant it.

Most birthing facilities will pack your placenta into a plastic bag or a plastic container. This needs to be defrosted for over 24 hours to thaw enough for the placenta to be removed for planting. Never a nice job – especially for a squeemish male!

Below are some pictures of different storage options and the mess and fuss experienced to defrost the placenta.

Caution these are graphic & not for the squeemish!

Not only is the Placenta in a huge rubbish bag which was awful to remove but it was then placed into a box and then another huge rubbish bag. All this plastic ends up in the land fill.

Tidy but lots of plastic which again was pretty messy to remove once it had defrosted.

This next ones a shocker - you've been warned!

This box is not an easy way to bring your placenta home as it may easily leak, especially when you have heaps to carry home. Most birthing facilities obviously don't trust these boxes as I've seen them used a number of times where the placenta is bagged in plastic as well.

I wouldn't want my freezer to get switched off and this to start defrosting! Great for giving husbands a fright when they think there's food in the unmarked box- especially if they've had a few beers!
